Inline Playlist Switching & Auto-Sync Edits

Two playlist upgrades — inline switching lets you temporarily play different content, and auto-sync pushes playlist edits to your live stream without restarting.

What's New

Managing playlists on a live 24/7 stream just got significantly easier with two new features.

Inline Playlist Switching

Sometimes you need to interrupt your regular playlist — to play an announcement, a sponsor segment, or a special event — and then return to normal programming.

Inline mode does exactly that. Mark a playlist item as inline and it plays immediately when triggered. Once it finishes, playback automatically returns to where your main playlist left off. No manual switching, no stream restart.

Use cases:

  • Breaking news or announcements — interrupt the schedule, then resume

  • Sponsor segments — insert a promotional clip between regular content

  • Live event coverage — switch to event content temporarily

Auto-Sync Playlist Edits

Previously, editing a playlist while it was live required a restart to pick up the changes. Now, playout.video automatically syncs playlist modifications to your running stream.

Add a new video, remove a clip, reorder items — your live stream picks up the changes on the next item transition. No downtime.

How It Works

  1. Open your playlist in the editor

  2. Make your changes (add, remove, reorder, toggle inline)

  3. Changes sync automatically — the running stream picks them up on the next transition

No "apply" button needed. The sync happens in the background.
