Live Studio: Go Live with Cameras, Guests, and Layouts
A new way to broadcast on playout.video. Bring on guests, switch between layouts, share your screen, and go live to every platform at once: straight from your browser.
What's New
Today we're launching the biggest update in playout.video's history, Live Studio.
Live Studio is a new stream type that lets you produce a real, interactive live show entirely in your browser. Bring on guests, share your screen, switch between professional layouts, drop in clips from your media library, and broadcast to every destination you've connected, all from one tab.
If you've been using playout.video to run a Live Channel (our 24/7 looping stream), you can now also go live in front of the camera. And if you've been wrestling with downloadable streaming software, capture cards, and per-guest invitations, Live Studio replaces all of it.
What You Can Do
Bring On Guests From Anywhere
Click Invite guests, copy the link, and send it to your guest. They open the link in any browser, allow camera and mic, and they're on your show. No app to install. No account to create. No technical setup on their end.
You can also click Add Placeholder to reserve a slot for a guest who'll join later, useful for booked interviews where you want the layout ready in advance.
Switch Between Professional Layouts
Live Studio ships with a full set of broadcast-ready layouts (also called scenes in other tools). Build them once, switch with a single click during your show:
Spotlight: full-screen view of one source
Showtime: host plus content, with a polished broadcast look
Half Screen: three people with a key speaker
Pip: content focus with a camera overlay
Thumbnails: main content plus a sidebar of smaller feeds
Grid: auto-arranged grid for any number of guests
Cover and Contain, feeds filling or framed against your background
Custom: drag-and-drop your own layout
Add Any Source
Click Add Camera to bring in your own webcam. Click Add Screen Share to walk through a presentation, demo, or game. Click Add RTMP Source to plug in a hardware encoder, a phone, or a remote camera anywhere in the world.
Mix in Your Library
Drop in a pre-recorded video from your media library mid-show, it plays inline through your stream, then your show continues right where you left off.
Branded Overlays Stay On
Logos, lower-third text, and Now Playing overlays from the Composition Editor carry over to Live Studio. Your show looks like a show from second one.
Broadcast Everywhere at Once
Live Studio plugs into your existing destinations. Go live to YouTube, Twitch, Facebook, TikTok, Kick, LinkedIn, and any custom RTMP or RTMPS target, at the same time, in one click.
Plus a Record-Only Mode
Not ready to broadcast? Click Record instead of Go Live. Your show is captured to your media library without touching any destinations, perfect for podcast episodes, interview pre-records, or rehearsals.
How to Open It
Click Create Live Stream from your dashboard
Choose Live Studio as the stream type
Open your stream and click Sources in the sidebar to add your camera and invite guests
