Introduction

Kick is a fast-growing streaming platform with a strong foothold in gaming, entertainment, and emerging creator categories. If your audience overlaps with Kick's, multi-streaming there alongside YouTube, Twitch, and others is a straightforward way to expand reach.

This guide walks through connecting Kick as a destination on playout.video.

Before You Start

You'll need:

  • A Kick account in good standing

  • A stream on playout.video (Live Studio, Live Channel, or Scheduled Stream)

Step 1: Open Destinations

In your stream's sidebar, click Destinations. Then click Add Destination.

Step 2: Choose Kick

In the destination picker, choose Kick.

Screenshot suggestion: Add Destination dialog showing the platform list with Kick selected.

Step 3: Sign In to Kick

You'll be prompted to sign in to your Kick account and authorize playout.video to broadcast on your behalf.

Once authorized, return to the destination dialog. Your Kick channel is now connected.

Step 4: Configure the Destination

A few settings worth confirming:

  • Auto-Start: toggle on to have Kick go live automatically when you click Go Live on the main stream

  • Stream title: set a title that will appear on your Kick channel (often you can leave this dynamic and edit per-stream)

  • Category / Game: Kick categorizes streams; pick the right one

Save.

Step 5: Go Live

When you click Go Live on your main stream toolbar, Kick goes live alongside your other connected platforms.

Within seconds, your Kick channel shows the broadcast in its category.

Best Practices for Kick

Pick the right category

Kick discovery leans heavily on category. A stream in the wrong category gets surfaced to the wrong audience. Pick carefully.

Stream consistently

Kick rewards consistency more than it rewards intermittent virality. Pick a streaming time and stick with it.

Engage in chat

Kick's audience expects host-chat interaction. Streams where the host engages get returning viewers. Streams where the host monologues don't.

Stream the full quality

Kick supports high-quality streams. Don't downgrade your bitrate or resolution unless you have to.

Multi-platform isn't either-or

Kick + YouTube + Twitch is a strong combo. Different audiences, same content.

Common Questions

Why does my Kick destination show as offline after authorizing? The first connection may take a moment to confirm. Wait 30 seconds and refresh.

Can I use a custom RTMP URL for Kick? If you prefer, yes, Kick provides a stream URL and key in your Kick dashboard. Add it as a Custom RTMP destination instead of using the OAuth integration.

What if my Kick stream looks lower quality than YouTube? Confirm that all destinations are receiving the same source quality. If one platform appears worse, it's usually a player-side or platform-side issue, not a stream-side one.
