Recording Your Live Sessions: Which Plans Include It and How It Works
How stream recording works on playout.video: saving live sessions to your media library, pausing mid-show, record-only mode, and which plans include recording.
What Recording Does
With recording enabled, your live session is saved to your media library as it happens. When the session ends, the recording is ready alongside your uploaded videos: reusable in playlists, on the timeline, or as a download for editing into clips and shorts.
That closes the loop that makes a channel compound: stream live once, then let the recording feed your 24/7 loop, your highlight playlists, and your short-form pipeline. See How to Repurpose Your Live Show into TikTok and YouTube Shorts.
Which Plans Include It
Recording is included on Creator and above. The Free plan streams without recording.
Plan | Recording to library |
|---|---|
Free | Not included |
Creator | Included |
Channel | Included |
Business | Included |
Enterprise | Included |
Recordings count toward your workspace storage (100GB on Creator, 150GB on Channel, 250GB on Business, expandable with the storage add-on), so long shows are one more reason the storage ladder climbs with the tiers.
How to Record
Open your stream or Live Studio session.
Enable Record to library in the session controls before or during the show.
Stream as usual. You can pause and resume the recording mid-session, so breaks, pre-show waiting screens, and off-record segments never make it into the file (see Pausing and Resuming Recording While Live).
End the session. The recording is processed and appears in your media library.
Record-Only Mode
You can also record without going live at all. Record-only mode runs a full Live Studio session (guests, layouts, overlays) but sends the output to your library instead of any platform. It's the way to produce podcast episodes, pre-recorded shows for your calendar, and interview content on the same rails as your live production. Details: Record-Only Mode.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the watermark on my recordings? Recording requires a paid plan, and paid plans stream unbranded, so recordings are clean.
Do recordings capture overlays and layouts? Yes. The recording is the produced output: everything your viewers would see.
How long can a recording be? As long as the session itself. Studio sessions run up to 24 hours on paid plans; keep an eye on storage for very long shows.
Why can't I turn recording on? Check your plan. On Free workspaces, the recording toggle points you to the upgrade dialog; Creator is the first tier that includes it.
