Pause and Resume Recording During a Live Show
Pause your recording mid-show, then resume: without breaking the live broadcast or creating multiple files. Useful for off-record breaks, sensitive segments, and clean post-production.
What's New
You can now pause the recording mid-show and resume it without affecting the live broadcast.
The PAUSED badge appears on the canvas while recording is paused. The live stream continues to your destinations as normal. When you click Resume, recording picks up, the saved file is one continuous recording with the paused section omitted.
When to Use It
Off-record moments
A guest needs to share something sensitive (a personal anecdote, an off-record opinion, a confidential detail). Pause the recording. The broadcast continues if you want it to, or you can also pause the broadcast separately. Either way, the saved master file doesn't include the moment.
Pre-show / post-show banter
The pre-show "is this thing on?" minute and the post-show "phew, that went well" minute don't belong in the recording. Pause before, resume when ready.
Bathroom breaks
Long shows have human moments. Pause for two minutes. Resume.
Pickup recording
If you need to re-do a segment off-stream, pause the master, do the pickup separately, and stitch in editing.
How It Works
While the recording is active (REC badge visible), click Pause in the toolbar
The badge changes to PAUSED
The live broadcast continues to destinations
When ready, click Resume
The badge returns to REC, recording picks up
The saved master file is one continuous recording, the paused section is simply not included.
What's Different About Pausing vs. Stopping
Pause keeps the recording session active; it just doesn't capture during the pause. When you resume, it's the same recording, same file.
End Recording stops the session entirely. If you start recording again, it's a new session, new file.
For most use cases, Pause is what you want. End Recording is for actually finishing the show.
Pro Tips
Use it sparingly. Frequent pausing creates jumps in the recording that can confuse viewers of the replay.
Communicate clearly. "We're going to take a quick break, see you in two." Lets your guests know you're pausing the recording too.
Pair with broadcast pause. If you're pausing for a sensitive moment, you may also want to pause the broadcast so live viewers don't see the off-record beat.
Don't rely on it for editing. Aggressive editing is better done in post-production. Pause is for moments that shouldn't be in the recording at all.
Try It
Start any Live Studio recording. Click Pause in the toolbar. Notice the PAUSED badge. Click Resume to continue.
