Live Viewer Counts on the Embedded Player

Your embedded player can now show a live 'N watching' badge, and your dashboard shows the same concurrent-viewer number in real time. Here is how the count works and how to turn it on.

What's New

Two places now show how many people are watching your embedded stream, live:

  • On the player: an optional "N watching" badge, the same social proof viewers expect from YouTube or Twitch, now on your own website

  • In your dashboard: the Embed tab shows watching now next to the embed toggle, updating every few seconds while the stream is live

The badge is a per-embed setting (Show viewer count), off or on with one switch. The dashboard number is always there for you either way.

Why a Number on the Player Matters

A live badge does two jobs.

For viewers, it signals that the thing they're watching is alive and shared. An event page that says "812 watching" feels like an event; a bare player could be a rerun. This is the oldest trick in live television (the crowd shot exists for a reason) and it translates directly to the web.

For you, the dashboard count is the fastest honest answer to "is anyone out there?" during a show, without switching to a platform analytics tab that doesn't know about your website audience anyway.

When the audience is small, you might prefer to keep the badge off, and that's exactly why it's a toggle. Turn it on for the big service, off for the quiet Tuesday test.

How the Count Works

The number is real concurrent viewers: players currently connected and watching, measured over a short presence window (about 30 seconds), so it tracks reality closely without flickering on every page refresh. It is not a cumulative hit counter and it doesn't include your platform viewers on YouTube or Twitch; it counts the audience on your pages, which is precisely the audience no platform will report for you.

Turning It On

  1. Open your stream's Embed tab (Business plan).

  2. Flip Show viewer count.

That's it. The badge appears on every page where the player is embedded.
