Introduction

LinkedIn Live is the underrated platform for B2B creators, executives, and professionals. It surfaces to a high-intent professional audience, integrates with LinkedIn's native engagement system (comments from your network, real names attached, lead-gen value), and rewards content that's substantive over content that's flashy.

This guide walks through adding LinkedIn as a destination and getting your broadcast live.

Who LinkedIn Live Is For

  • B2B SaaS founders demoing product, hosting customer panels, running thought-leadership shows

  • Consultants and advisors sharing expertise to build inbound demand

  • Executives running quarterly company updates or industry talks

  • HR / talent / recruiting professionals hosting hiring events, interviews, employer-branding content

  • Anyone selling to professionals: the audience is on LinkedIn whether you stream there or not

If your audience is consumer/entertainment-first, LinkedIn isn't your primary platform. If your audience is professional/business-first, it might be.

Before You Start

  • A LinkedIn account in good standing

  • LinkedIn Live access: LinkedIn requires admin/page approval for live streaming. Apply through your LinkedIn account if you haven't.

  • A stream on playout.video ready to broadcast

Step 1: Open Destinations

In your stream's sidebar, click Destinations, then Add Destination.

Step 2: Choose LinkedIn

Pick LinkedIn from the destination list.

Step 3: Sign In and Authorize

Sign in to your LinkedIn account and authorize playout.video to broadcast.

You may be prompted to choose between broadcasting from:

  • Your personal profile

  • A Company page you administer

Pick the one that matches your audience.

Step 4: Configure

  • Stream title: make it specific. "Q3 Customer Panel: How CTOs Are Using AI" beats "Live with John."

  • Description: first 2 lines visible without click-to-expand. Make them count.

  • Audience: public, connections-only, etc. Most live streams should be public.

  • Auto-Start: toggle on if you want LinkedIn to go live automatically when you click Go Live

Step 5: Go Live

Click Go Live on your main stream toolbar. LinkedIn goes live with your other destinations.

Your network is notified depending on LinkedIn's notification policies. Engaged followers see the broadcast surface in their feed and notifications.

Best Practices for LinkedIn Live

Pick a serious topic

LinkedIn audiences expect substance. Casual hangouts under-perform; professional topics with clear takeaways perform.

Brand professionally

LinkedIn's audience expects polished branding. Use Overlay Templates to keep your show looking corporate-grade. See How to Build a Consistent Brand Across Hundreds of Videos.

Bring on substantive guests

LinkedIn rewards conversations between credible voices. A 30-minute conversation between two industry experts will out-perform a 60-minute solo monologue.

Use Live Studio for panels

Live Studio is well-suited for LinkedIn, multi-guest panels, executive Q&As, panel discussions are LinkedIn's strongest format.

Promote in advance

LinkedIn has lower discovery than YouTube, most viewers come from your direct invites and notifications, not algorithmic surfacing. Promote your stream a week in advance to your network.

Repurpose into a LinkedIn post

Within 24 hours of the stream, post a written summary or key takeaway as a LinkedIn post linking back to the stream replay. Doubles the impressions.

Common Questions

Why is my LinkedIn destination not connecting? LinkedIn Live requires explicit permission. If your account doesn't have Live enabled, you need to apply through LinkedIn first.

Can I stream from my personal profile? Yes, if your personal profile has Live access. Many professionals do this.

What aspect ratio does LinkedIn prefer? Landscape 16:9 is the standard. LinkedIn Live also handles square 1:1 and vertical 9:16, but most professional content lives in 16:9.

Should I multi-stream LinkedIn alongside YouTube? Yes, if your audiences overlap. The viewer experience is platform-native on each side.
